It's official! WV's newest theme, In Death, Victory, is now live!

Hi everyone! Charumati here with a shiny present for WV — a new theme! This theme addresses a few issues with previous themes as well as brings WV's design more in line with modern web design/development standards. Here's what's new:

  • WV is now responsive: That's right folks! Instead of being served the stripped-down version of WV's desktop theme when accessing from a mobile device, the theme will now adjust based on the width of your viewport (the thing you're using to view the forum). This includes responding to resizing when your mobile device switches portrait > landscape orientation, as well as adjusting desktop browser windows! As a heads up, some content will not be accessible on mobile; this is intentional due to the limited space + lack of true responsive functionality software-side.

Note: We're still working on tweaking all aspects of this (see Bug List below) so please don't expect a perfect experience just yet!

  • Stickied Menu Bar: The menu bar now stays stuck to the top of of your browser window (all viewports)! On windows smaller than 1200 px in width, the menu items will collapse into a dropdown menu, indicated by an icon on the right-hand side of the menu bar comprised of three horizontal lines stacked on top of each other -- this is called a hamburger menu for those interested in terminology.

  • No more sidebar: So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, goodbye! The plot info, latest updates, and staff list are now in our new header. Affiliates are now on the main page of the forum in the Warden's Vigil Statistics area.

  • Personalised Menu Bar: When logged in, the menu bar will now show the Display Name of the account you're logged into, as well as your New Messages and Updated Bookmarks counts, both of which are links so you can view them at any time, regardless of whether or not there's new content.

  • User CP: This is just a name change! Your "Profile" is now called User CP (control panel).

  • Custom Pages: We are in the process of moving as much of WV's information onto custom pages to eliminate the need for jumping around from thread to thread, and between the forum proper and the WV wiki. This is still a work in progress, but for now we have the Rules, FAQ, and Story Info available. The Featured Content link will also be populated before the week is out, but is not currently.

  • Changes in organisation: DON'T WORRY THE BOARDS ARE STILL THERE! We've just changed up how things are organised and nested. The biggest change is in the RP boards: All RP boards are now housed in the The World of Thedas category under one of four parent boards (Ferelden, Free Marches, Orlais, and Other Countries and Locations). Also, the RP boards now stand out from non-RP boards! Fancy~

  • Ain't no lie, baby bye, bye, bye (to signatures): Sorry folks, signature banners have gone the way of the dodo. Any pertinent info, such as your text colour, any image credits, NPC info, Character Bio, etc will now be added to your mini profile. Sig images and that little footer area, however, are gone.

  • Custom Profile Fields: As mentioned, the important info that used to be housed in the signature area will now be added to your mini profile through the use of custom profile fields. We're still setting these up, but you'll see them before the week is out. @charu will make a post about how to edit these when the time comes.

  • ... and more! There's honestly a lot of changes so just have a look around and see for yourself!

Bug List

We haven't had a chance to put this theme extensively through the wringer yet, and as such there will be some aesthetic inconsistencies, missing information, and (though hopefully minimal!) some bugs.

Below is a list of issues that are known and being worked on over the next few weeks. Please do not report the following issues!

  • Mobile / Small-width Desktop will be inconsistent in quality. Since ProBoards v5 (the current version of software) is not fully mobile responsive yet, we had to do a lot of manual adjustments to the CSS and HTML. As a result, not all aspects of the mobile / small-width desktop versions are as stable as their large-width desktop counterparts. This is our #1 priority barring any forum-breaking bugs that surface. Thanks for your patience!

  • Mini-profile information still needs to be added. This will be happening this week, and will replace the information previously kept in signatures (which have been removed, see below)

  • Member group colours need to be reinstated. This will also be happening this week.

  • Some buttons are white text on light grey background and will need to be fixed to be readable. This will also be happening this week.

  • The shoutbox is disabled until further notice because Charu forgot it existed the CSS needs to be adjusted; this is a low-priority item for us due to the inconsistent use. It will be coming back, however, so thank you for your patience in the meantime. The Help Discord can still be accessed if you need assistance!

  • Thread & PM labels need to be added and styled. This is also a relatively low-priority item for us since there are only a limited number of instances where they are / will be used.

  • Bullet points in posts are not rendering with the correct spacing. This will be fixed within the week.

  • Thread / Conversation summaries are not styled. This is a medium-priority issue.

  • Code & Quote displays are not styled. This is a medium-priority issue.

  • Updated Bookmark indicator shows total bookmarks, rather than only showing the # of updated bookmarks. This is a medium-priority issue.

If you encounter any bugs not on this list, please create a new thread in this board following the form below. Please ensure that your thread titles are concise and descriptive of the problem you experience; please refrain from using titles such as "Help!" or "Not working", etc.
